Some thing to Talk Talk about.

Do I need to cast Talk Talk to the Broadly Banned?

For quite a while I had open ended unlimited download and free weekend calls via. ISP Tiscali.co.uk.,an arrangement that continued when Tiscali began to trade under the auspices of Talk Talk. Being a lethargic sort of a person one muddled on during the period of change over and things might have remained as they were indefinitely, had the Internet Service Provider not displeased me personally. It was my making of a telephone call to a sub exchange out of Reading that did it.Seemingly the dial code for that sub exchange is very similar to the Talk Talk Directory Enquiry number, allegedly that enquiry number was touched on, before all of thirty seconds later I was put through to the number dialled, for this misconnection I was charged in the region of £2.50. It was at that point that I advised my ISP that as the error was theirs, I expected them to give me my money back. Basically their answer was that their brand new Telephone Exchange couldn't be faulted, so' no' I couldn't have a refund. However mysteriously after my contacting Off Com and a couple of Reading Newspapers, they decided they would be refunding me, but guess what the credit didn't show up on my next Account. Thus it was that I set about investigating how things were with other ISP.s . Well Seemingly BT, would give me a limited download, plus anytime telephone calls, free hub, wireless hot spots around the countryside, all for £20 a month plus £10 line rental if paid annually .Before they could sign me up for their service one apparently needed a Mac ? Number from Talk Talk.

Guess what, such sad news of the loss of a customer who had been with them a number of years, provoked the enquiry as to why I was choosing to leave them. One mentioned that one had long been licking ones wounds etc., and that BT were offering more than Talk Talk, and too there was the matter of the refund.

Goodness me £30 a month for limited download and free any time telephone calls. Talk Talk would better that. What I understood they then offered me was a 40 GB download, any time free calls all for £24.8o inclusive of line rental, on an eighteen month contract, and yes they would send me a new modem as the last had died of old age, and too credit that Refund.

The Modem in shiny white arrived promptly enough, and worked well. However where one wondered all the paperwork confirming the new deal? There wasn't any, however someone did phone either from Talk Talk or not from Talk Talk, who wished to tell me something about my computer. No telling who because neither my wife who first fielded the call nor I, were able to make head or tail of what the lady was saying. Without telling her that, I suggested that if she was who ever she said she was, she'd have my e.mail address, so could she advise me via. e.mail what she wished to tell me, because I was rather deaf .(Being as I am ever a gentleman !)

Today the 16th October I discovered there was a something in my mail that had been posted on the 12th. October, alongside it a Red Marker by courtesy of Avira indicating that it seemed to be scam mail. As I tend to live dangerously I investigated rather than binning the message. It did seemingly come from Talk Talk, and thanked me for signing up with them for a further eighteen months. So far as I could see there is no mention of the financial terms of my doing so, and my anytime free telephone calls had become evening and weekend telephone calls, the former providing my calls were to other talk talk customers. Alas I don't know any, not for the first time I am wondering why that should be. There was however a useful bit of information concerning the Distance Selling Regulations of 2000. Seemingly I have a full seven day period to cancel my deal without penalty. Guess whom I will be phoning this afternoon?

Was I not wise to live dangerously and open that which Avira advised against, had I not done so who knows what I have supposedly signed up for? Please be very careful what one allegedly signs for. Possibly the error is mime however will let readers know the outcome of this anon.

'via Blog this 'SOUTHERN ELECTRICITY

Today one received ones latest account from this Supplier, which had previously announced an intention to raise its Tariff on the 13th. September from 11.52 pence a unit to 12.06pence a unit.

Though one might have expected SEB to read ones meter on or about that date, it did no such thing. Preferring to Estimate the amount of electricity used since its previous Estimated account to the 23. June’ which followed its Estimated Account from 18thDec.2010 to 23 March 2011, which in turn followed on from the previous estimated quarter 21 September 2010 to 17th Dec. 2010, which needlessly to tell followed on the Estimated Account for the period June to Sept 2009, but what Joy seemingly the meter was read for the quarter to June 24.2010. So much for the company reading meters four times a year.

TAKE CARE ALL WHO PAY BY DIRECT DEBIT.

BECAUSE.
This Company having under estimated my account on my current bill, stood to make an unwarranted profit on my next quarter’s account ( As too this Quarter’s) There is a technical term to describe such a thing, but for the life of me I cant remember what the word is.

Possibly all need to check their Meter Readings, lest you too succumb to the same unintentional error of accounting.

Do you ken the Scottish saying
‘Many a mickel maks a muckle.’

Read your meter and advise the SEB

CONCERNING TALK TALK ISB.

One reads how fine the Tiscali Talk Talk Service is, however I have found it exceedingly troublesome over the Years. Last month but this, I was charged for a call allegedly made to its Directory Enquiry Service, before being put through thirty seconds later to the correct number off the Reading Telephone Exchange. Following complaint I was promised a refund of the money Talk Talk had taken from my Bank Account by Direct Debit, but I have not as yet been credited with this money. Is this ISP Provider to be trusted, or should I sign up with another?

London Riots

Do you remember their ‘IN’ Miranda ?

My ‘In’ refers to the Coalition Government’s arrival fifteen months ago, since then we have seen an awful lot of ‘glancing , prancing, backing and advancing’* but little else other than the Libyan debacle financed from our ‘Reserves’. It is as well those were there, for years of Labour Governance not only left the coffers empty, but a pre-spend of much of our income for the foreseeable future. Heaven only knows why any of them were elevated to the Upper House ?

Apart from waging War in Iraq and Afghanistan, Labour Government allowed uncontrolled immigration, and fostered multi-culturalism, to an extent that we now have ghettoised communities which seemingly
consider themselves more disadvantaged than everyone else. Maybe this is so, but surely the same rules apply to everyone, so could such be the case, unless the indigence alleged is self imposed ?

A general culture of dependency has arisen through payment of over generous Benefits . If one is disinclined to work, claim unemployment benefit, if seeking work there is a benefit for that too. Should any job one finds be poorly paid there are Tax Credits available. Can’t afford to live in Central London, never mind the Local Council Tax Payers will cough up for your Rent and Community Charges. The largesse of the former accounts for the escalation of rents demanded, and encouraged a whole new sub-culture of fraudulent landlords. Want children ? Of course you do, never mind the cost, the rest of us will pay, so no need to stint yourself. Cant speak English, no need to attend Hospital with a friend, we will pay for an Interpreter. Not sure what happens in the schools where twenty six tongues are spoken. Enough of such nonsense.

Though a political apostate, being of its ilk I always vote Conservative in Parliamentary Elections, doing so despite that such Governance has oft disadvantaged me personally , however Coalition with the Lib-Dems has disadvantaged everyone, for it is a triumph of ineffectual compromise where Statesmanship is called for , surely the alliance can not persist beyond the Party Conference Season ?

* Do you remember an Inn, Miranda, do you remember an Inn?
And the cheers and the jeers of the young muleteers . Who hadn't got a penny,
And who weren't paying any, And the hammer at the doors and the din?

Papalscope on The Alternative Vote Referendum UK. May 2011

Jeremy Bentham who was born in February 1748 was the proponent of Utilitarianism the concept of 'The greatest Good for the greatest number of people' also known as the
' Greatest Happiness Principle'.
A Representation of him with waxen face and body of straw is still displayed at University College London. On that College's one hundredth, and its one hundred and fiftieth anniversary the figure was taken into the College Council Meeting, where Bentham was recorded as ' being present but not voting.'

Its circumstance being not dissimilar to the UK Electorate as a whole.

Some elected to the UK. Wiltshire Unitary Authority in May 2009 have more probably than not become dispirited by the reality of Local Government, realising that the trials and tribulations of Councillorship have little to do with the enthused idealism of candidature. One can not doubt that having ‘Councillor’ afore ones name has a certain ring to it, but candidates don’t stand for self aggrandizement, nor for the allowances receivable, nor in truth because of a burning desire
‘to serve others and put something back into society'
Dilettantes apart, one suspects most who stand for election do so either in the possibly mistaken belief that each one of them would do a jolly sight better than the previous incumbent, or as is more likely, stand to espouse any number of local issues.

All too frequently a candidate stands either under the auspices of a National Political Party or his or her own recognisances, in a Division where he or she hasn’t the remotest chance of winning. Is so doing a matter of naiveté, or of dog in the manger iconoclasm ? It is wonderful that all have the opportunity to seek to become a Councillor or even an MP, but is not such wistful candidature indicative of a lack of sound judgment, why then would any vote for such persons? For too long our Electoral Process has held its Candidates, ' Hostages to Fate'. Whether a particular Candidate is successful or not, has little to do with his or her personal merit, but has everything to do with the vagaries of the System. If one introduces
ALTERNATIVE VOTING,
things would be more equitable. Our six year old Grandchild entered for the On Line School's Maths Day, so not to be outdone I too thought to compete.
PLEASE FIND MY ENTRY BELOW:

Near on two years ago Wiltshire elected its new Unitary Authority. Some 143,195 of us cast our vote in a turnout that ranged seat to seat , from under thirty per cent. to over sixty per cent. Bentham might or might not have approved that the 45.9% majority which voted Conservative elected 62.3% of the Councillors (Two of that creation are no longer Councillors). The 32.1% who voted Liberal Democrat returned only 24.5% of the Council. The 7.4% who voted Independent returned 8.2% of it whilst 2.1% of the electorate chose to vote ineffectively
HOWEVER
THE 1.05% OF THE ELECTORATE WHO VOTED FOR THE DEVIZES GUARDIANS RETURNED 3.1% OF OUR COUNCILLORS. If one was to extrapolate backwards from that fact, surely the Conservatives should have returned not a mere 63 Councillors but twenty times that number. They were swindled at the Ballot box. I demand a recount!

Thirty Three Divisions of our Unitary Authority were won on a MINORITY vote. Whilst thirty nine of the seats were won on less than fifty per cent of the votes cast. therefore had we had an ALTERNATIVE VOTING SYSTEM , those thirty nine seats would have been subject to re-evaluation. Whilst seven of those are now held by The Liberal Democrats, three by the Devizes Guardians, two by Labour and two by Independents, twenty five were held by the Conservatives which may be why the Conservative Party doesn’t wish to bring in the ALTERNATIVE VOTE SYSTEM, but who could know the outcome of any re-calculation until one sees how the electorate chooses to cast its alternative votes.

OUR ELECTORAL PROCESS IS A BROKEN ABSURDITY THAT NEEDS FIXING , SO
…..PLEASE CONSIDER VOTING ' YES 'IN THE REFERENDUM THIS MAY..
